    Google Launches Disavow Links Tool

    Google Launches Disavow Links Tool
by Danny Sullivan, Search Engine Land
    Oct 16, 2012

Google has launched a new and widely anticipated “disavow links” tool. The tool was announced by the head of Google’s web spam team Matt Cutts, when speaking during a keynote at the Pubcon conference today.

The tool is live and can be found here. It has been beta tested by some selected SEOs already for the past few weeks. About 45 minutes after Cutts spoke, Google formally announced the tool on the Google Webmaster Central blog.

Earlier this year, Bing launched its own disavow links tool.

Thanks for posting David. Was just reading the headlines about this but had not had time to read in detail yet.

Since local, with the blended algo is so much about organic SEO, backlinks can play a big part, so appreciate you letting everyone know about this.

A good read with a BIG warning!

How Google's Disavow Tool Will Impact Link Removals

"Before Matt Cutts shared the URL for the tool, he had a few words of warning for everyone in the room...

Do not use this tool unless you know what you are doing and you are sure that you need it. Do not be the guy (or gal) who accidentally disavows every link going to your website. If you are that guy, you should not use this tool.

Matt stressed the importance of still trying to remove all the links from the Web manually that you can before you use this tool. Other search engines are also looking at your link profile – so are competitors – you don’t want them to think you like spammy links either.
    "
Read the rest and more warnings at the link above.

    Conspiracy theory? Maybe
    True? Ya Maybe

I can TOTALLY see this being the case. I think Google gathers and tries to use every piece of data they can get. And here's a great way to get link spammers everywhere to report themselves...

Yes. Not unlike the big "nofollow" push of a few years ago... "Would you mind doing our work for us, webmasters?" ~ Google

Phase 1: Use incoming links as the basis for ranking sites in a new search engine. Search results enjoy great popularity and most other search engines disappear.

Phase 2: Google has an epiphany: "Oh no! They're onto us! People are actually BUYING links!"

Phase 3: Matt Cutts hired to combat Google algorithm end runs.

Phase 4: Google panics. "It's not working! They're still doing it!"

Phase 5: Google brainstorms and comes up with, "I know! Let's get webmasters to turn on each other to improve their own status and we can just sit back and watch!"

    Pffftttt!
