Verification date: A long time ago - several years

Problem: We've spent the last 6 months at least coming out top on all place listings, but now have dropped right off past the 10 shown on search results.

Related History:

Screenshot(s) if helpful: This is where we were about 1 month ago:

IF RANKING PROBLEM: What City + Keyword? "Isle of Wight Hotel"

One thing we've noticed is that the snapshot of the map in the search results no longer shows the whole isle of wight - and often chops Ventnor off (which is where The Royal is). Does the map size itself to suit the results, or are the results controlled by what size of map google want to show?

Any ideas?

Yes with the old dash the 1st image is the one that shows at top of page and in search and on maps search.

With the new dash you can simply select the one you want featured. YAY!

Google prefers photos over logos or graphic images. That isn't to say you can't use a logo however showing a logo is not really going to help conversions and is not really putting your best foot forward IMO. If you were scanning Google trying to find a dealership what type of image would make a listing stand out to you - make you want to click to explore further?

Im hoping that this is considered a minor name change and the value from any existing citations will still pass value without changing the name on every citation.

Will a name change like this unwind any past and current work being done on local SEO or just throw a hurdle into the mix that can be overcome?

@Linda- Neat trick there. I was going around my elbow to get to my thumb trying to find out how to search for keyword density. You're trick is a helluva lot easier!

@Rawly- Thanks for your input.

Yep, that kicks it out of the account, then the account and main listing are not in danger.

BUT the cool thing is, if there are still citations for the other practice, the listing will stay live on maps, so still could get calls. BUT would not be in violation. But it would just look like a bare unclaimed listing. It may still keep the old address and if it links to the home page of the main web site, it would compete in search and could knock the main listing out of blended and disconnect it.

But in training today I'll be teaching you how to deal with that when we discuss dupe issues.

Andrew, do you have any comments on using MapMaker to add a POI for local businesses initially? Also, maybe a comment on what Linda said about MM removing SAB's?

Curious to hear what Andrew has to say on the subject too. Hopefully he'll be by soon and see his name mentioned.

Here are a couple others that mention Google starting to remove SABs from MM.

Mike briefly mentions it here: http://blumenthals.com/blog/2013/03/...owing-address/ "Apparently this bug is part of a change of process at Google… where they will be hiding addresses where they think appropriate and apparently not even showing the listing in MM."

And a discussion by pros at the MM forum alludes to it in part: "There has been speculation that Places (aka Google+Local) is attempting to segregate SABs from MM, so mappers will no longer be able to edit or review SABs in MM. There have been sporadic reports on the Google Places for Business forum as well as the GMM forum of Google Listing Editors denying good edits in MM and Maps report a problem (aka Community Edits), that SABs are now displaying their address even if they've checked the box in the Dashboard (presumably due to a bug in Local), and that some SABs no longer have a corresponding POI in MM."
