My client's address is still not recognised properly by Google despite a user edit - although it is at least now in the same shopping mall.

Now five other main citations seem to have taken the address from the Google listing rather than my client's postal address.

I need to build more citations... but do I use his postal address or the address that Google seems to want to give him?

BTW, the address in the dashboard is different to both the other addresses - if I try to change it, the map in the dashboard complains that it does not recognise the address so I have left that alone.

Wade, I completely redid his original listing, removed any custom categories, made sure he was an SAB with a radius location. And then I reported the issue. They came back within a couple of days to acknowledge and a couple of days again to say it was fixed.

That's when I noticed that the website was wrong! However, at least he did own the other website so I have now managed to work out how to forward. Hopefully, that will continue to work.

Marie, I have not pulled hair out but I'm sure it's going grey and I definitely have more wrinkles than when I first started doing this!

Linda, I too had thought of the bottle in the tide! I have another client who is struggling to get Google to recognise his address. His listing in our town remains on the front page but trying to rank for the county is up and down like a yoyo. One day he's there, the next day he isnt. Then he's back and then gone again. Today he seems to be ranking but he is at least beginning to understand the mercurial nature of Local. We just get so many clients who say 'But I've always ranked front page for blah in blah', what's going on and why can't you fix it!

Today, Google seems to have decided that my own business category is Computers! God knows where that has come from as I have spent the afternoon checking out my citations to see if I chose that as a category somewhere and come up empty handed. I just hope no one rings up asking for hardware advice and gives me a bad review as a result... :O

Colan, thank you - although I'm rather hoping to get off the rollercoaster and find a client who has an address that Google recognises, a store front that people can visit and five default categories that fit his products/services :)

AndyWPP, hope you can get to the bottom of it.

The other benefit of having one site with "city pages," as opposed to a bunch of different websites, is that any links you get can benefit all the pages on that domain. That's not the case if you've got multiple websites.

No sorry, due to being so sick, plus not getting my Maps invite yet, it's postponed. Thought was going to get invite Friday but it didn't come. I never publish good stories on weekends because too many folks would miss it. So will probably be Mon or Tues if I get my invite and even if I don't I'll likely post what I know so far and Ryan said he'd do screenshots for me if needed.

Focusing on the map portion and the 10 listings normally seen on the left side, these have been the driving force for clicks and traffic to businesses. Now that they have been removed, I can see the main driver of traffic becoming more review based. Especially since that's really the only thing left for a person to chose from. Other than the distance they want to travel of course.

The big 3 data providers in the US are Localeze, InfoUsa, and ACXIOM. Ensuring that your NAP data is correct on them is crucial as they feed data to dozens of business directories as well as Google Places and Map Maker.

Hi there,Thank you for contacting Google+ Local about your business listing. It looks like the website you submitted is one of multiple official websites for your location across the Web. If multiple websites exist for your business, we will not be able to moderate your preferred website onto the business listing. If you want to ensure that your preferred website appears on the listing, you should make sure it is the only official website for your business across the Web.

The client that I was working on in this case has 2 URL's for their website. One that was created by corporate and one that he purchased at some point.

With the huge Google Maps update that's underway and considering how much it is going to impact the world of Local Search as we know it, I decided to break out a new forum for discussion of pure Maps topics.

Welcome to the NEW Google Maps Forum.

Check the link above for the hot Google maps related topics I just moved into our new forum including a super cool video walkthrough that shows of the impact the new Maps will have on our world. Plus there will be many more map related posts to come.

There are also a couple of threads that will stay in the Google+ Local IMPORTANT section of the forum, because they are mixed threads about a variety of new updates - but they also heavily center around the maps update, so see these posts as well.
